Treating
pain and discomfort in muscles, joints and more.
Myofascial approaches focus on assessing and treating the fascial system of your body rather than individual muscle groups, or joints, or symptoms. Your fascia, or connective tissue, is a fine 3-D web that surrounds, supports and infuses every muscle, tendon, organ and bone right down to the cells of your body.
Fascia is both flexible and very strong in its natural state fascia supports and facilitates easy movement but if damaged or subject to stress/tension it will over time begin to solidify and form tight bands which we often experience as painful restrictions.
*To visualise your fascia think of peeling an orange the white pith that surrounds not just the outer fruit, but each segment, and each pocket of juice within that segment and then imagine it was your muscle.
Because your fascial system covers and infuses your whole body, tension or injury in one area can produce apparently unrelated symptoms elsewhere. Think of taking a woollen jumper by one corner and pulling on a couple of threads. You can try this with whatever shirt you happen to be wearing at the moment! Look in the mirror and you will see lines of tension stretching through the material pain and tension can radiate out along these lines. For example: although you think you have a problem in your lower back or hips, in fact much of the root cause may lie in your shoulder.
By utilising gentle and powerful stretching techniques alongside pelvic balancing, Myofascial therapy treats the root causes of pain, discomfort and distress in your body fascial restrictions. Relieving these restrictions and allowing your posture to improve, and pain to vanish, your own body can begin to heal.
